Engraving Materials

There is a huge range of materials available in many many colours and finishes and I will be pleased to help with advice on the best product for a particular application.

RIGID LAMINATE (Traffolyte)

This is a rigid sheet available in black and white and the usual plain colours, it is the material normally used for switch panels but is only suitable for internal use as it will fade when exposed to sunlight (especially black). It is available in 3mm and 1.5mm thickness.

FLEXIBLE and TEXTURED LAMINATES

These are suitable for external use and are also available in 3mm and 1.5mm and a huge range of colours including some realistic metal effects including aluminium and stainless steel. As the material is not rigid larger panels may need to be supported from behind i.e. mounted on plywood.

METALS

Almost any metal can be engraved including aluminium, brass and stainless steel. I often make engine panels in aluminium which, after engraving, are anodized and paint filled making an attractive and long lasting panel for external use.

ACRYLIC

Clear Perspex in a variety of thicknesses is often used to produce holed shelves to support bottles and glasses in cupboards.
